Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has revealed government plans to build a new 50,000-capacity stadium at Borteyman, describing the project as central to transforming the area into a modern “Sports City.”
Speaking on future infrastructure development, Mr Adams said the stadium is not only feasible but could be completed before the end of President John Dramani Mahama’s current term in office.
“We are looking at having a new stadium at Borteyman because we want to elevate that whole place into a Sports City,” the Minister explained. “It is doable, and we believe this project will change the face of sports infrastructure in the country.”
The Borteyman enclave already hosts key facilities from the 2023 African Games, including an aquatic centre and indoor sports halls, and is seen as a hub with potential for long-term sports development.
If completed, the new stadium would provide Ghana with an additional world-class venue to host international competitions, ease pressure on the Accra Sports Stadium, and boost the nation’s chances of bidding for future continental tournaments.
The project is expected to form part of government’s broader commitment to investing in sports infrastructure and creating opportunities for Ghanaian athletes to compete at the highest level.
