Nollywood veteran Pete Edochie has urged renewed investment in Ghana’s film industry, warning that the country’s once-prominent film sector needs financial support to regain its position.
Ghanaian films and actors previously attracted significant attention beyond the country’s borders. Edochie said that influence had gradually declined, despite Ghana continuing to possess considerable acting talent.
The actor described Ghanaian performers as “exceptionally good”, but expressed concern about the fall in the number of films being produced locally.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on TV3’s The Afternoon Show on Tuesday, October 6, Edochie recalled a period when Ghana was producing a large number of quality films and its actors were widely recognised.
He said the industry’s recovery would depend on people with the financial means to support the creative sector and help bring more film projects into production.
“There are people who have the capacity to invest,” Edochie said, calling on stakeholders to approach wealthy individuals in Ghana for assistance.
The veteran actor also appealed directly to the President, saying he was confident the government would respond positively if asked to help prevent the industry from deteriorating further.
Edochie said he had “implicit confidence” in the President and believed the government could make an important contribution to the sector’s revival.
“If I say, Your Excellency sir, don’t let our industry die in Ghana, he will respond,” he said.
While acknowledging the quality of Ghana’s acting talent, Edochie said skill alone would not be enough to restore the industry. In his view, sustained financial backing and a clear commitment to film production are needed to give performers and filmmakers the opportunity to work again.
