The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, has collected nomination forms to seek another term in office, promising to unite the party and strengthen its prospects in the 2028 general elections.
Nana Kwasi obtained the forms on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, and used the occasion to highlight what he described as the progress made during his tenure.
He said the NDC’s parliamentary representation in the Ashanti Region had increased from three seats to seven under his decentralised leadership. The party, he added, was now targeting further gains across the region’s 47 constituencies.
“I took the party from three MPs. We added one, we added another three MPs, now we have seven MPs. Seven seats it hasn’t happened before,” Nana Kwasi said.
“Now we are moving to 35. I won’t give exact numbers, but I can assure you that if God permits and I’m re-elected, we will see more, and the NDC will be attractive in this region.”
He attributed the party’s progress to a collective approach to leadership, saying responsibility had not been concentrated in the hands of one person. Instead, regional and constituency executives had been given the opportunity to take an active role in running the party.
Nana Kwasi also pointed to organisational development within the region as one of the achievements recorded during his period in office.
He cited the election of Yaw Owusu Obimpeh to the Council of State as a further indication of the NDC’s growing influence and described it as a significant institutional milestone for the party.
Addressing previous claims of internal disagreements or questions over members’ loyalty, the regional chairman said he had confidence in the delegates who would decide the contest.
He promised a clean campaign focused on issues rather than personal attacks, while also calling for an approach that would avoid disputes requiring reconciliation after the election.
Nana Kwasi said the 2028 general elections would demand experienced leadership capable of holding the party together as it faced a challenging political contest.
“I bring respect, I bring experience, I bring love, and I bring togetherness,” he said.
“We know the 2028 elections will not be easy. We need experience; we need someone who can bring the party together. I am the right person who can unite the party and secure victory for the NDC.”
