The Adenta Circuit Court has granted Techiman-based nurse Salomey Awiti Baffoe bail of GHC100,000 with two sureties to be justified.
The 40-year-old is facing a charge of abetting the publication of false news in connection with TikToker Ghana Jollof.
Her lawyers, led by Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, applied for bail during proceedings on Monday, October 5. They told the court that Madam Awiti Baffoe had spent three weeks in Police custody.
It was the legal team’s third attempt to secure her release, after an earlier application was rejected by the Accra High Court in September.
The prosecution, led by Dr Justice Srem-Sai, did not oppose the bail application.
Presiding judge Angela Attachie subsequently granted bail on condition that two sureties be provided and justified. The court specified that both sureties must be civil servants earning at least GHC3000.
Madam Awiti Baffoe must also report to Police investigators once every two weeks at the Hesua Police station in the vicinity.
The case has been adjourned to February 17 for continuation.
Speaking to the media after the ruling, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah said he was pleased with the court’s decision.
“There couldn’t have been a better outcome for me than this…
“It’s been a very sad journey, a difficult moment that has had our skin getting encumbered in the game,” he said.
The Manhyia South MP was arrested by an Economic and Organised Crime Office official at the forecourt of the Accra High Court after filing a bail application following the refusal by the Adenta Circuit Court.
He was detained by EOCO officials for two nights after an altercation with the officer on the High Court premises.
EOCO had said Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah was being investigated over a deal involving SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Ltd.
He was later taken before the High Court on Saturday, October 3, where he was charged with several offences, including conspiracy to commit intentional dissipation of public funds, intentionally causing financial loss to the state and money laundering.
He has pleaded not guilty to those charges and was granted bail of GHC10million with two sureties without justification.
