The 2026/27 MTN FA Cup final will be played over two legs for the first time in the competition’s history, in a major change introduced by the Ghana Football Association.
The new format will allow both finalists the opportunity to host one of the matches in front of their home supporters, replacing the traditional one-off final.
The opening leg is scheduled to take place between June 5 and 7, 2027, with the second match set for June 12–13. The champion will be decided over 180 minutes across the two fixtures.
The change gives supporters of both clubs the potential to see their team play in a final on home soil. It is also expected to create a different atmosphere around the competition’s showpiece and increase its visibility.
The route to the revamped final begins with the preliminary round, which is scheduled for October 23–26, 2026.
The Round of 64 will follow from November 27–30, before the Round of 32 is played between February 12 and 15, 2027.
The quarter-finals are due to be held from March 19–22, while the semi-finals will take place between April 23 and 26.
The two finalists will then meet across the scheduled June dates to determine the 2026/27 MTN FA Cup winner.
Nations FC will begin the campaign as defending champions after winning the trophy in dramatic circumstances last season.
They defeated Dreams FC 5-4 on penalties in the 2025/26 final after the match finished 1-1 following extra time.
The decision to introduce a two-legged final marks a significant change to the structure of Ghana’s premier knockout competition. Rather than having a single match decide the winner, the finalists will have two encounters in which to claim the trophy.
The revised arrangement could also bring a different tactical challenge, with both clubs required to manage the tie across separate matches and adapt between the first and second legs.
Clubs will first turn their attention to the preliminary round in October as they begin the pursuit of a place in the historic June 2027 final.
