Ghana’s 2026/27 women’s football season will begin with a meeting between the country’s two reigning domestic champions when Ampem Darkoa Ladies face Hasaacas Ladies in the Women’s Champion of Champions on Friday, October 16, 2026.
The fixture will be played at the Otumfuo AstroTurf at Dichemso in Kumasi, with the clubs competing for the first major silverware of the new campaign.
The annual season opener brings together the winners of Ghana’s two principal domestic women’s competitions from the previous season. It will also give both sides an early opportunity to establish their intentions before the 2026/27 campaign gets under way in full.
Hasaacas Ladies qualified after winning last season’s Women’s FA Cup. They overcame Army Ladies 5-3 on penalties after a closely fought match to lift the trophy and secure their place in the Champion of Champions.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies earned their place by winning the 2025/26 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League. Their title was confirmed after they came from behind to defeat Hasaacas Ladies 2-1, finishing the season as league champions.
The repeat contest gives Ampem Darkoa another chance to face the team they beat in the title race, while Hasaacas will hope to respond after their league disappointment and add to the FA Cup they won last season.
For Hasaacas Ladies, victory would provide an opportunity to start the new season with a second trophy in succession. Ampem Darkoa, meanwhile, will look to reinforce their position as league champions by claiming another win against their domestic rivals.
The encounter is expected to draw considerable interest as supporters anticipate the return of competitive domestic women’s football in Ghana. Both clubs enjoyed significant success last season, and their meeting in Kumasi will offer an immediate test of their preparations and ambitions.
The match will also highlight the quality and increasing competitiveness of women’s football in Ghana. With the two most recent domestic champions meeting at the start of the campaign, the game carries the added significance of being an early battle for supremacy and the season’s first piece of silverware.
The Champion of Champions will therefore open the 2026/27 season with Hasaacas Ladies and Ampem Darkoa Ladies competing for early bragging rights in a contest between the winners of the Women’s FA Cup and the 2025/26 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League.
