Ghana’s security agencies, public institutions, businesses and citizens have been urged to work more closely to tackle cybercrime and protect the country’s digital financial ecosystem.
The call came from Deputy Minister for the Interior Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, who said cybersecurity must now be treated as a key part of national security.
He was speaking in Accra at the launch of the 2026 National Cyber Security Awareness Month, held under the theme: “Securing Ghana’s Digital Finance Ecosystem: Building Trust through Collaboration and Cyber Resilience.”
Mr Terlabi said the growing use of digital platforms for financial transactions, business activity and public services had increased the need for stronger protection against cyber-enabled crime.
He called for security agencies and other relevant bodies to share intelligence promptly, improve digital-forensics capabilities and coordinate investigations more effectively. He also stressed the need for stronger support for the prosecution of cybercrime cases.
The Deputy Minister urged members of the public to take practical steps to protect themselves online. These included securing passwords, PINs and verification codes, checking requests for money before making payments, avoiding unfamiliar links and messages, protecting personal information and reporting suspected cybercrime without delay.
Businesses and financial institutions were also encouraged to improve their cybersecurity systems and provide regular guidance to both employees and customers. Mr Terlabi said organisations should contact the relevant authorities promptly whenever cyber incidents occurred.
He said the Ministry of the Interior remained committed to working with the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), Ghana Police Service and other stakeholders to improve Ghana’s ability to prevent, investigate and respond to cyber-enabled crime.
Mr Terlabi called on all stakeholders to use the awareness month as a renewed opportunity to accept responsibility for protecting the digital spaces on which they depend each day.
