Bibiani Gold Stars coach Frimpong Manso has admitted that his side’s errors in the first half were crucial in their 2-0 defeat to Algerian giants JS Kabylie in the CAF Champions League preliminary round.
Speaking after the match, Manso said his players failed to settle quickly into the game, which allowed the North Africans to take control.
“We made too many mistakes in the first half,” he reflected. “At this level, when you give the ball away cheaply, you get punished. We improved in the second half, but by then the damage had already been done.”
The loss leaves Gold Stars with a mountain to climb in the return leg, but Manso insists his side will not give up hope.
“The tie is not over. We must regroup, correct our mistakes and approach the second leg with more confidence. Anything can happen in football,” he added.
Gold Stars will need at least a two-goal win in the reverse fixture to keep their Champions League dream alive.
