Bibiani GoldStars head coach, Desmond Frimpong Manso, has called on his players to approach their CAF Champions League preliminary round tie against Algerian giants JS Kabylie with belief and self-assurance.
Acknowledging the pedigree of their North African opponents, Manso described Kabylie as “one of the powerhouses of African football,” particularly in the Champions League. But he was quick to remind his team that respect for their rivals must not translate into fear.
“They are a team we need to respect but not on the field of play,” Manso said. “We’ve told the players to be more confident. We don’t have to underrate ourselves against North African opponents as the case has been for some time now.”
GoldStars, who are making their debut in the CAF Champions League, are determined to make their mark on the continental stage. Manso’s message reflects a growing belief within the camp that they can compete with Africa’s most established clubs if they stay disciplined and seize their opportunities.
The first leg of the tie will test GoldStars’ resilience, but the Ghanaian side insist they are ready to defy the odds and prove themselves against the seasoned campaigners from Algeria.
