The acting Minister for Defence, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has confirmed that a board of inquiry has begun investigations into the August 9 Z-9 military helicopter crash.
In a statement issued in Accra on Monday, August 25, 2025, Dr. Forson disclosed that the board is chaired by the National Security Coordinator, with membership drawn from the Ghana Air Force and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
The minister indicated that the board has been tasked to complete its work within 30 days.
He further revealed that the United States government is supporting the process by providing technical guidance through investigators from the U.S. Air Force. The board may also seek expertise from other local and international institutions to aid the inquiry.
The crash occurred on August 6, 2025. On the day of the incident, a preliminary investigation team was set up to gather evidence for the formal inquiry. That team is expected to present its findings today, August 25.
Dr. Forson emphasised that the probe is aimed at uncovering the circumstances that led to the crash and at recommending measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
