The Ministry of Education has praised teachers across Ghana for their commitment and contribution to the country’s education system as the nation joins countries around the world in marking World Teachers’ Day 2026.
In a statement issued by its Public Affairs Unit, the Ministry said teachers were “at the heart of Ghana’s education system” and played a vital role in shaping the minds, character and future of children.
It gave particular recognition to teachers serving in deprived and hard-to-reach communities, where they continue to provide education despite difficult conditions. Their dedication, professionalism and sacrifices were acknowledged as an important part of the country’s efforts to improve education.
“Teachers remain at the heart of Ghana’s education system and play a critical role in shaping the minds, character and future of our children,” the Ministry said.
The Ministry said the government remained committed to an education transformation agenda delivered through the education sector. That programme, it added, was focused not only on widening access, but also on improving quality, learning outcomes, relevant skills and human capital development.
Teachers would remain essential to the success of both current and future education reforms, the Ministry said.
“We recognise that no education reform can succeed without teachers,” it added.
The Ministry said it would continue working with teachers, their unions and other stakeholders to strengthen the teaching profession. It also pledged to maintain its focus on professional development, alongside issues affecting teachers’ welfare and working conditions.
It called on parents, communities and Ghanaians more broadly to value and support teachers, saying their work remained fundamental to the country’s development.
The Ministry said teachers’ influence extended beyond classroom instruction, with their contribution helping to shape the character and future of Ghana’s children.
“Thank you for your dedication. Thank you for your sacrifice. Thank you for shaping Ghana’s future,” it said in its message.
The statement concluded with best wishes to teachers across the country on the occasion.
“Happy World Teacher’s Day!” the Ministry said.
