Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to unite behind its goal of winning the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.
Mr Akufo-Addo said the party’s 2026 National Annual Delegates Conference should mark the start of a coordinated effort to return the NPP to government under the leadership of its presidential candidate, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia.
“The time has come for all hands on deck so that the Party can emerge victorious from the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections to enable a new NPP government under the leadership of the NPP’s Presidential Candidate, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, to be formed to promote the rule of law and the welfare of the ordinary Ghanaian,” he wrote on Facebook.
The conference took place in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, and resulted in the election of a new national executive led by Chairman John Boadu.
Mr Akufo-Addo congratulated the newly elected officers and wished them success during their term in office.
“I extend my best wishes for a fruitful mandate,” he wrote.
He also praised the outgoing National Executive Committee, led by former Acting National Chairman Danquah Smith Buttey, together with the members of the National Officers Elections Committee chaired by Frederick Opare Ansah.
The former president extended his congratulations to all delegates involved in the organisation and conduct of the conference.
According to Mr Akufo-Addo, the event again highlighted the strength of the NPP’s internal democratic processes.
He said the conclusion of the conference should now lead to what he described as the party’s collective advance as “One Party, with One Purpose, United for Victory.”
The new national leadership takes charge as the NPP prepares for the next presidential and parliamentary elections in 2028. Mr Akufo-Addo’s message placed emphasis on collective responsibility, party unity and the objective of forming a new NPP government under Dr Bawumia’s leadership.
