Nations FC CEO Backs GFA Presidential Term Extension

The Chief Executive Officer of Nations FC, Kennedy Boakye Ansah, has thrown his support behind the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) proposal to extend the tenure limit of its presidency, a move that could pave the way for current GFA President Kurt Okraku to seek a third term in office.

Boakye Ansah voiced his approval during an interview on Sporty FM, describing the proposed shift from two to three terms as a positive step for Ghanaian football.

“I don’t think it’s a bad idea for Kurt Okraku to have a third term,” he stated. “That is my opinion.”

His remarks come in the wake of a communication from the GFA last week, confirming that FIFA has approved the amendment, which aligns Ghana’s football governance with both the global body and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

If adopted, the change would increase the presidential limit from the current two four-year terms (eight years) to a potential 12-year tenure.

The proposal is set to be tabled during the GFA’s upcoming congress on August 12, 2025, where delegates will vote on the amendment. The outcome could have direct implications for President Kurt Okraku, who is currently in his second term after first taking office in 2019.

Supporters of the extension argue it would offer continuity and stability in leadership, particularly at a time when Ghanaian football is striving for competitive consistency and structural reform. However, critics have raised concerns about the potential for entrenched leadership and reduced accountability.

Kurt Okraku’s presidency has seen a series of reforms and strategic partnerships, including the recent Adesa Productions deal to boost Ghana Premier League content. Whether those achievements will be enough to convince the wider football community to endorse the extension remains to be seen.

As the congress date approaches, the debate is expected to intensify among clubs, stakeholders, and fans across the country.
