There Was No Pressure On Me – Prince Owusu on His First Black Stars Call Up

Medeama and Black Stars midfielder, Prince Owusu says he will not allow his first Black Stars call-up to distract him, insisting that the invitation is only the beginning of harder work and greater responsibility.

The young forward, who has impressed at club level, earned his maiden national team selection from head coach Otto Addo during the last two world cup qualifiers games against Central African Republic and Comoros. While many players might feel overwhelmed by the occasion, Owusu says he is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

“I will not get carried away by the first invitation,” he said. “I will rather work hard just as I worked hard to attract the attention of the coach. I will work extra hard.”

Owusu also revealed that he felt no pressure joining the senior national team setup, thanks to guidance he received beforehand.

“There was no pressure on me because I had received pieces of advice,” he explained. “As a player, there is no senior player, but off the field, you accord people the needed respect. So my call-up did not bring me any pressure.” He stated.
