The Sefwi-Wiawso Municipal Assembly has begun work on the Bekwai-Dwinase bypass in an effort to reduce persistent traffic congestion in Dwinase’s central business district.
Traffic delays have affected motorists, traders and residents for years, disrupting businesses and making it difficult for people and vehicles to move through the municipality’s busy commercial centre.
The bypass is being opened to give vehicles an alternative route and improve traffic flow around Dwinase. It is expected to reduce pressure on the roads most affected by congestion, although its success will depend on how effectively it diverts traffic from the area.
The Municipal Chief Executive told 3News that the Assembly had sought help from the Tipper Drivers Association to transport boulders from Chirano to the project site.
The association agreed to support the work and assisted with moving the materials required for the intervention.
“Chirano Gold Mines and the Tipper Drivers Association have been acknowledged for their support towards the project,” the Municipal Chief Executive added.
The congestion has become a growing concern for businesses operating in the central business district, where delays affect the movement of customers, suppliers and other road users.
Improved traffic flow could make the commercial area more accessible and help businesses whose daily operations depend on reliable movement through Dwinase.
The Assembly says it is working with local organisations and businesses to address the long-standing problem, which has created difficulties for people who rely on the commercial centre for their everyday activities.
