Sagnarigu DCE nominee gets 100% endorsement

Iddrisu Mariam, President Nana Akufo-Addo’s nominee for the Sagnarigu District of the Northern region, was today Monday, May 8 confirmed by the assembly to assume office as the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area.

Ms Iddrisu, who is one of the four women nominated for the position of DCE in the Northern Region, polled 33 out of the 33 votes cast giving her an overwhelming endorsement.

Mr Salifu Saeed, the Northern regional Minister who swore in the DCE, advised her to represent the interest of every member of the district regardless of their political affiliation. This, he said, was the only sure way the policies of the government could be successfully implemented to bring the needed development to the people.

“The work of District Assembly is a non-partisan exercise, it’s a development vehicle that you will preside over to ensure that the policies and programmes of the government of the day as well as development agencies who want to assist the people in the District Assembly to realise its development aspirations [are successfully executed],” he said.

“You are supposed to be a mother for all, you are supposed to listen to all parties, be it ruling or opposition, who will come to your office to suggest proposals with regard to strategies, with regard to problems, with regard to challenges, with regard to some development initiatives and if you put all together, collectively with the assemblymen and women you will be able to develop the place.”

Mr Saeed also implored the new DCE to work in partnership with chiefs and members of the assembly in order to achieve the development needs of the district.

Ms Iddrisu thanked the president for the confidence reposed in her and pledged to work with every member of the district.

“As I have resolved to work closely with every stakeholder in the district, I will be a listening Chief Executive, run an open administration while recognizing the work of every team member and their contributions towards the development of our dear district,” she said.

She also thanked the Assembly Members for approving her nomination and called for peace, unity, cooperation and commitment in order to engender the needed development for the district.
