Real Madrid have reportedly agreed a €2m deal to sign Ghanaian defender Oscar Naasei from Granada, with the 21-year-old expected to begin his career at the Spanish giants with their reserve side, Real Madrid Castilla.
Naasei has already completed his medical ahead of the proposed move and is set to join Castilla as he starts working towards a possible place in Real Madrid’s first team.
The centre-back’s arrival is viewed as a long-term investment by Real Madrid, who believe the Ghanaian has the potential to develop into a senior player. The club’s immediate plan is for Naasei to gain experience, adapt to the demands of his new surroundings and continue his progress with Castilla.
Real Madrid had to overcome competition from a German club that had also expressed an interest in signing Naasei. The defender has chosen to continue his development in Spain, where his performances have earned him the opportunity to join one of football’s most renowned academies.
Naasei’s move represents a significant step in his career after he impressed during his time with Granada. He will now have the chance to train and play alongside other highly rated young players within the Real Madrid system, with the long-term objective of competing for promotion to the senior team.
The 21-year-old primarily operates as a centre-back, although he can also play at right-back. He joined Granada’s under-19 team in 2023 after moving from Ghanaian lower-tier club Emmanuel City.
Since arriving in Spain, Naasei has progressed through Granada’s ranks and has made 71 appearances in all competitions. He has also played in both of Granada’s matches in La Liga 2 this campaign.
His move to Madrid will give him a new opportunity to build on that experience. Real Madrid’s decision to invest €2m reflects their belief in his future prospects, while his initial role with Castilla is designed to provide a route towards the club’s first team.
Naasei will now look to make the most of his opportunity with Real Madrid after opting for the Spanish club despite interest from Germany.
