No synergy between education and economy – Educationist

An education consultant, Dr. Mathew Karikari Ababio, has lamented the lack of synergy between education and the economy leading to the debilitating levels of unemployment being witnessed currently.

As a result, he called for a radical approach to get the economy to run leading to an increase demand for the educated labour.

He said this Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at a Starr Summit, a national dialogue on sustainable funding of the government’s free Senior High School policy: Opportunities and Challenges of Relying on Petroleum Revenues.

Speaking on the topic; How can the ‘free SHS’ policy ensure quality, access and sustainability, Dr. Ababio said the free SHS policy is good to the country’s development and that “we need to grow the economy from the cocoa based economy to a knowledge based one.”

To achieve this, he said there will be the need for a change of attitude “so we can get things to work in this country.”

“It is important to create value for education in the country,” said Dr. Ababio.

The dialogue was organised by the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) in collaboration with the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) and Starr FM.
