Highlife musician Kofi Nti has broken down in tears following the death of his mentor and legendary singer, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba.
In an emotional interview with Ghana Weekend on Saturday, July 26, Nti revealed he was in the United States when he began receiving phone calls early in the morning about Lumba’s passing. The news, he said, felt too surreal to accept at first.
“I’ve lost my mentor,” he wept.
Determined to verify the reports, he reached out to individuals close to the late icon. His first attempt to confirm the news was unsuccessful, but when he finally reached longtime associate ET Akunnor, the reality sank in.
According to Nti, Akunnor reminded him of something Daddy Lumba once said: “When you hear of my passing, don’t shed a tear.”
“That moment,” Nti recalled, “confirmed to me that the legend was truly gone.”
Daddy Lumba passed away at dawn on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the Bank Hospital in Accra, where he had been admitted for an undisclosed medical condition. His death has shocked the music industry and left fans across Ghana and beyond mourning the loss of a generational voice.
A statement issued by DL FM later that day confirmed his passing and appealed for privacy for the family during this difficult time.
Known for his timeless music and influence on countless artistes, Daddy Lumba was more than just a collaborator to Kofi Nti — he was a guide, a teacher, and a friend. The two shared not only studio time but a bond built on deep mutual respect.
As tributes pour in nationwide, Kofi Nti’s grief reflects the pain of many who knew Lumba personally — and millions more who knew him through his music.
