KNUST delays 2026/27 reopening indefinitely amid GAUA strike

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has postponed the start of the 2026/2027 academic year indefinitely because of the ongoing strike by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).

The university had been due to reopen on 13 October 2026. However, in a press release dated 9 October 2026, management said the industrial action had affected the institution’s operations and administration, making the postponement necessary.

Students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders have been advised to take note of the change. KNUST said it would announce a new reopening date in due course.

The university expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the decision and thanked stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation.

The statement was signed by the University Relations Officer, Dr Daniel Norris Bekoe, on behalf of the Registrar.
