The Ghanaian government will improve selected ceremonial roads in regional capitals, including those in newly created regions, ahead of the country’s 70th Independence Anniversary celebrations in March 2027.
Roads and Highways Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza said the works had been ordered by President John Dramani Mahama as part of preparations for the anniversary.
The programme will include key roads in Goaso, the capital of the Ahafo Region, and is expected to begin before the celebrations.
“The President has also directed that as part of the new Regions, as part of our 70th Anniversary celebrations, we select some principal roads in the Regional capital. Goaso is a regional capital, so you will see some works before the 70th Anniversary, which is March next year,” Mr Agbodza said.
He was speaking during President Mahama’s Resetting Ghana Tour of the Ahafo Region.
The announcement is part of wider government plans to improve road infrastructure and strengthen connections between communities across Ghana. The selected roads will be upgraded in regional capitals as the country prepares to mark 70 years of independence.
Mr Agbodza also promised a substantial improvement to the wider road network in Ahafo, while thanking residents for their support for the President and his party.
“Ahafo, we are very grateful for the support you have given to the President and our party. We shall deliver on our mandate of improving the road network in Ahafo Region on a scale you have never seen before,” he added.
The Minister said the planned investment would cover more than the ceremonial routes identified for the anniversary, with the government aiming to improve road access throughout the region.
The March 2027 celebrations will mark Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary, with the road works forming part of the preparations in regional capitals, including Goaso.
