Ghana striker Rafiq Aminu joins Masafi Al-Wasat on free transfer

Ghanaian centre-forward Rafiq Aminu has joined Masafi Al-Wasat from fellow Iraqi club Peshmerga SC on a free transfer.

The 26-year-old completed the move on 20 August 2026 and has signed a contract running until 20 May 2027. Aminu becomes part of Masafi Al-Wasat’s attacking options after leaving Peshmerga SC, whom he joined from Ch. Brothers in January 2026.

Aminu, who was born in Kumasi, is a right-footed striker standing 1.81m tall. His career has taken him across several footballing environments, including Iraq, India, Nepal and Georgia, before his latest move within the Iraqi game.

His most productive recorded campaign came in Georgia’s second tier, where he scored seven goals in nine appearances for Samgurali during the Erovnuli Liga 2 season. He also registered three goals in eight appearances in the Nepal Super League and scored twice while providing two assists in 11 matches in the Indian Football League.

Aminu has previously played for Chitwan, Al-Kahrbaa Club, Friends Club, Alcudia and Samgurali. His time in Georgia also included a spell at FC Saburtalo, with whom he won the Georgian Cup in the 2020-21 season.

The forward began his recorded senior club career with Shevardeni II before moving to FC Shevardeni in 2020. He later joined Saburtalo, switching to Samgurali in 2021 before continuing his career with Alcudia and Friends Club.

Aminu’s route to Masafi Al-Wasat follows his arrival at Ch. Brothers in January 2025 after a period without a club. He then moved to Peshmerga SC at the beginning of 2026, where he spent the first part of the 2026-27 season before completing his latest transfer.

He has also appeared in the Iraq Stars League, scoring once in two recorded appearances, while his career record includes matches in the David Kipiani Cup and AFC Cup. The striker’s previous experience in domestic competitions across multiple countries adds to the background behind his move to Masafi Al-Wasat.

The transfer was completed without a fee, with Aminu’s Masafi Al-Wasat contract running through May 2027.
