Ghana National Fire Service confirms 2025 rent allowance was completed in April

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has rejected claims circulating on social media that its personnel are still waiting to receive their 2025 rent allowance.

In a statement, the Service said the reports were “false and unfounded”, adding that the final tranche of the full 2025 payment was made in April 2026.

The clarification follows posts alleging that the GNFS had failed to meet its rent allowance obligations to officers and other personnel. Management urged both members of the Service and the wider public not to rely on or distribute the claims.

The GNFS also provided an update on the 2026 rent allowance. It said a committee had been established to supervise the process and ensure that the required mechanisation is completed soon.

Mechanisation is expected to support the administration of the allowance payment, although the Service did not provide a specific date for when the 2026 process would be completed.

Management said the welfare of its personnel remained a priority, including matters relating to compensation. It also appealed to staff to remain patient while assuring them that outstanding welfare concerns would continue to receive attention.

“The Management appreciates the patience of personnel and would like to reassure them of its commitment to addressing all issues of welfare, including compensation,” the statement said.

The Service repeated its commitment to an open-door policy and said it would continue to communicate transparently with its personnel and the general public.

That commitment, it said, was intended to ensure that accurate and timely information was available on issues affecting the welfare of GNFS personnel.

Management therefore called on the public and GNFS staff to disregard the reports about the 2025 rent allowance and to refrain from sharing or spreading what it described as misinformation.

The statement did not identify the source of the social media reports, but the Service’s response was aimed at correcting the impression that the 2025 allowance had not been paid.

According to the GNFS, the entire 2025 allowance was ultimately settled, with the final portion transferred in April 2026. The Service is now working through the arrangements for the 2026 allowance under the committee appointed to oversee the process.

The GNFS said it would remain focused on providing reliable information about developments affecting its personnel and their welfare.
