All 18 Ghana Premier League clubs will receive GHS 1 million each before the start of the 2026/27 season, Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku has announced.
The financial support was revealed at the GFA’s 32nd Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, where Okraku also confirmed that the league champions will receive GHS 3 million.
The package is part of a new partnership between the GFA and Adesa Productions Limited, an agreement intended to strengthen the commercial foundations of Ghana’s top-flight competition.
“Each GPL club will receive GHS1 million before the beginning of the season. The winner of the GPL will take home GHS 3,000,000. GHS 9,500,000 will be paid as prize money for the GPL clubs,” Kurt Okraku said.
The GFA says the funding will provide clubs with greater financial stability and give them additional resources to manage their football and administrative operations during the campaign.
Clubs are expected to use the money to support their day-to-day work, improve player welfare and become more competitive. The association believes that better-resourced teams can contribute to higher standards across the league by investing in players, technical development and club administration.
The GHS 9.5 million prize-money package will cover the Ghana Premier League clubs, while the GHS 3 million reward for the champions is designed to offer an added incentive in the title race.
The agreement with Adesa Productions Limited extends beyond direct financial support. It forms part of a wider commercialisation plan aimed at creating new sponsorship opportunities, strengthening the league’s marketing and increasing income from matchday activities and broadcasting.
The GFA wants to make the Ghana Premier League more commercially attractive, sustainable and capable of gaining international market appeal. Officials believe the partnership can help create the conditions for clubs to operate more professionally and compete at a higher level.
The intervention comes as teams prepare for the 2026/27 campaign, which is scheduled to begin between 4 and 7 September. The financial commitments announced by the GFA are expected to give clubs greater certainty as they plan for the new season.
The association views the initiative as a further step towards building a stronger and more financially sustainable competition. Its wider aim is to improve the professionalism of the Ghana Premier League while raising the quality and competitiveness of the football played across the division.
With each club due to receive GHS 1 million before the season begins, and the eventual winners set to claim GHS 3 million, the GFA believes the new arrangement will strengthen the league both on and off the pitch.
