Ghana international defender Abdul Mumin has joined Girona FC on a free transfer, signing a three-year contract with the La Liga club that will run until June 2029.
The 28-year-old centre-back arrives ahead of the 2026/27 season as Girona FC look to strengthen their defensive options for another demanding campaign in Spain’s top flight. His experience, physical presence and knowledge of Spanish football are expected to add greater depth to the club’s backline.
Born in Accra on 6 June 1998, Mumin is 1.88 metres tall and has established himself as a powerful and competitive central defender. He is known for his aerial ability, willingness to challenge opponents and strength in defensive duels.
Mumin developed as a footballer at Ghana’s Right to Dream Academy, a respected institution that has helped produce a number of players who have gone on to build careers in Europe.
He later continued his development overseas, spending important stages of his career with Danish club FC Nordsjaelland and Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes.
The defender moved to Spain in 2022 when he joined Rayo Vallecano. During his time with the Madrid-based club, he made more than 60 official appearances and gained valuable experience of the demands and style of La Liga.
That background could give Mumin an advantage as he begins life at Girona FC. He is expected to compete for a regular starting place while also offering the coaching staff an experienced alternative in central defence.
Mumin’s move also comes at an important point in his international career. He made his senior debut for Ghana in June 2024 and has since become part of the Black Stars setup.
His selection for Ghana’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup reflects his increasing importance to the national team and gives him the chance to compete on football’s biggest international stage.
For Girona FC, the signing provides a chance to add a defender who is already familiar with Spanish football and the demands of La Liga. The club also gain a player with experience from different European leagues and a strong physical profile suited to central defence.
For Mumin, the move represents the next stage of a career that has taken him from the Right to Dream Academy to clubs in Denmark, Portugal and Spain. Joining Girona FC gives him a fresh opportunity to establish himself at a club competing at the highest level of Spanish football.
He will now aim to make an immediate contribution during the 2026/27 campaign, using his strength, defensive experience and familiarity with La Liga to help Girona FC achieve their ambitions.
