Efia Odo has condemned musician Keche Joshua for comparing singers Yaa Jackson and Gyakie, describing the comment as unnecessary and divisive.
Keche Joshua, one half of the Keche music duo, stirred controversy after a video of him praising Yaa Jackson surfaced online. In the interview with blogger ZionFelix, Joshua applauded Jackson’s recent performance and boldly claimed she was vocally better than Gyakie.
The statement immediately attracted strong reactions on social media, with fans and followers of both artists weighing in. But it was socialite and actress Efia Odo who delivered one of the most pointed critiques.
“There’s enough room on the table for everyone to enjoy. No need to bring someone down to uplift another,” she wrote in a social media post responding to the viral clip.
Odo argued that such comparisons do more harm than good, adding that they undermine growth in Ghana’s music industry by fostering unhealthy rivalry instead of collaboration.
“This is our main problem in the industry! Everyone wants to be the only one on top when the sky is big enough for all of us,” she added.
Her comments resonated with many who believe the entertainment space in Ghana is too often plagued by internal competition rather than collective progress.
Meanwhile, Keche Joshua has attempted to walk back his remarks, telling critics he was “just playing” and did not intend for the comment to be taken seriously.
However, Odo’s concern reflects a broader issue in the industry—how public figures use their platforms. Critics argue that artists, especially those with influence, should focus on building bridges rather than stirring debates that pit creatives against one another.
In an industry already facing challenges of exposure, funding, and global competitiveness, Efia Odo’s call for unity and mutual respect is gaining traction.
Her remarks have reignited conversations about how Ghanaian entertainers can better support one another without resorting to damaging comparisons, especially when both Yaa Jackson and Gyakie are building unique musical paths.
As of now, neither Yaa Jackson nor Gyakie has publicly responded to the controversy.
