Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso praised the attacking partnership of Joao Pedro, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers after the trio each scored in a 3-2 Premier League win at Fulham on Monday.
The result gave Chelsea three points from their opening league fixture and secured an away victory against their London rivals. It also leaves Alonso’s side sixth in the early Premier League table.
Joao Pedro, Palmer and Rogers were all on target, providing the decisive attacking contribution as Chelsea began their campaign with victory. Alonso was especially pleased with the way the three forwards combined during the match, creating opportunities and sharing the responsibility in attack.
Speaking after the game, Alonso welcomed the fact that each of his principal attacking players had found the net.
“Today, I am happy that all three scored. I really enjoyed his [Cole Palmer] performance,” Alonso told Sky Sports.
The Chelsea manager offered particular praise for Palmer, highlighting the midfielder’s balance between discipline and creative freedom. Alonso said Palmer approached the game with maturity while still playing in an expressive way alongside the other two forwards.
“He played with responsibility and maturity, but also with freedom. The three strikers were combining well and creating chances,” he added.
The goals from Joao Pedro, Palmer and Rogers proved central to Chelsea’s success at Fulham, with all three contributing on the scoresheet as Alonso’s team opened their Premier League campaign with a win.
Chelsea’s victory means they already have three points from their first league fixture. Their attention now turns away from the Premier League, with an EFL Cup tie scheduled for Thursday.
