Ayitey Powers Vows to Defy Boxing Suspension After Bahubali’s Death

Ghanaian boxer Ayitey Powers has threatened to go against the National Sports Authority’s (NSA) directive to suspend all boxing activities following the sudden death of Ernest “Bahubali” Akushey.

The NSA imposed the suspension as part of precautionary measures while investigations into the tragedy continue. But Ayitey Powers, visibly frustrated, says he has already invested heavily in his upcoming promotions and cannot afford to halt them.

“I’ve already spent so much money on my promotions and they want to destroy it. What can come, can come,” he said, signalling his readiness to push ahead despite the directive.

The passing of Bahubali, who died just days after a damaging defeat to Jacob Dickson, has shaken Ghana’s boxing fraternity and raised questions about medical and safety standards in the sport.

Ayitey Powers’ defiant stance, however, highlights the growing tension between regulators’ efforts to safeguard fighters and promoters’ financial commitments to the sport.
