Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has warmly welcomed newly appointed colleague James Gyakye Quayson to the Foreign Ministry, marking a symbolic reunion of two political allies now tasked with advancing Ghana’s diplomatic agenda.
In a heartfelt Facebook post on Mr Ablakwa expressed his delight over Quayson’s arrival, calling him not only a “dear brother” but a “great friend” with whom he has shared both political and personal victories.
“We worked closely together in Assin North in that famous 2023 victory; we have always worked together in Parliament with our offices on the same floor; and now, fortuitously, we get to work together at the Foreign Ministry to deliver more victories for God and Country,” Ablakwa wrote.
The appointment of James Gyakye Quayson to the Foreign Affairs Ministry is seen by many as both strategic and symbolic, especially given his high-profile political comeback following a fiercely contested by-election in 2023.
Quayson, whose resilience has become emblematic of political tenacity in Ghana, now joins the diplomatic front line at a time when the country is repositioning itself on key international issues ranging from regional security to economic partnerships.
Ablakwa ended his note of welcome with optimism and camaraderie.
“Congratulations, my distinguished brother. Welcome aboard!”
