Daddy Lumba’s one-week observance set for August 30

The one-week observance for late Ghanaian highlife legend, Charles Kojo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba, will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

This was confirmed following a meeting between the Ekuona Royal Family of Nsuta and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace. The gathering was in line with Ashanti customs, where the royal family sought the King’s blessings ahead of the funeral rites.

Although the final venue for the observance is yet to be announced, the family says plans are far advanced to ensure the occasion reflects the stature and musical legacy of the celebrated icon.

Born in Nsuta-Amangoase in the Ashanti Region, Daddy Lumba’s contribution to Ghana’s music industry spans decades, influencing generations with his unique voice, lyrical depth, and timeless hits. His death has left a void in the hearts of many, triggering an outpouring of grief across Ghana and beyond.

“The venue for the one-week observance will be officially communicated soon,” family representatives noted, assuring the public that preparations are being carefully made to honour the musician in a manner befitting his status.

The meeting with the Asantehene marks a significant step in the traditional rites leading up to the final funeral ceremony. It reflects the deep cultural and royal roots that Daddy Lumba maintained throughout his life, even while capturing national and international acclaim.

As fans continue to pay tribute to the highlife great, the upcoming one-week observance is expected to draw mourners from all walks of life—musicians, fans, dignitaries, and cultural leaders—who wish to celebrate the man whose music became the soundtrack of generations.

Further details on the observance will be shared in the coming days.
