Taskforce arrests 4 illegal miners; sets mining equipment ablaze

The Ashanti Regional Small Scale Miners Association taskforce has arrested four (4) illegal miners and destroyed several mining equipment at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region.

The four were caught in the act at the time the Taskforce stormed the area. They were subsequently handed over to the police.

The Taskforce was set up by the Ghana Association of Small Scale Miners to support government effort in clamping down on the activities of illegal miners in the country.

Speaking to Kumasi based Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo, Commander of the Taskforce, Bresi Andoh said the decision to set up the taskforce was to protect the image of the legal small scale miners in the country and help government to fight against illegal mining.

According to Bresi Andoh, the Taskforce remains committed in suporting government to clamp down illegal mining to help protect lands and water bodies.
