Bolgatanga, July 22, GNA – Government has been called on to consider the various youth training Institutes to benefit from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND).
The Regional Youth Coordinator in charge of Upper East Region, Mr Daud James Abang-Gos made the call during a ‘Regional Youth Dialogue Forum’, organised by the Regional Youth Council in Bolgatanga, on Wednesday.
The forum was to create a platform for political authorities and duty bearers to interact with the youth with the view to finding solutions to their challenges and general problems confronting the nation.
Mr Abang-Gos explained that if Government through the GETFUND allocate resources to Youth Leadership Training Institutes like it does with educational institutions, it would help empower the National Youth Council (NYC) to provide more employable skills to the youth.
He also entreated municipal and district assemblies to sponsor young people from their respective areas to the various youth training institutes.
Whilst commending the Regional Minister and the Regional Security Council for their efforts at maintaining an appreciable level of peace in Bawku, the Regional Youth Coordinator, condemned the recent violent demonstration by students of the Navrongo and Gowrie Senior High Schools in the Region.
Mr Abang-Gos called on the youth in school and out of school, to use dialogue and peaceful means to put their grievances across for redress and also condemned selfish people who used the youth to perpetuate violence, to desist from such practices since it hampered development.
“Those who use the youth today to perpetuate mayhem and disorder to pave the way for them to take over leadership positions, should know that if they achieve their aim by a wrong way, the same will visit them when they are in the position they wrongly acquired”, he cautioned.
He also advised the youth to stop attacking politicians and other people in authority, and rather work hard and take up the mantle of leadership in future.
The forum attracted participants from municipalities, districts, youth associations, National Service Association, Ghana Health Services, Ghana Education Service, Sports Council, Federation of Youth and Disabilities, tertiary students, dressmakers, and representatives of political parties.
