Young women need to aspire to higher positions

Young women in the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) must aspire for higher political positions taking inspiration from the election of Ms Francisca Oteng, a 22-year-old law student as the party’s parliamentary candidate for Kwabre East.

Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, NPP’s chairman for the Afigya-Kwabre South said Ms Oteng’s feat should serve as a motivation for young women to be very active and strive for leadership positions not only in the party but in any field of endeavor.

He advised young ladies to desist from always looking for favours and demonstrate their capabilities to assiduously work towards huge political ambitions in order to gain greater recognition through active participation in party activities to win the support of party members in their respective constituencies.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi, Odeneho Appiah, congratulated Ms Oteng Mensah for her feat, describing her as a shining example to many young women in the party.

The second year law student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), who won the recent NPP Parliamentary contest in the Kwabre-East constituency, shocked many Ghanaians when she defeated five other candidates, including the incumbent, Mr Kofi Frimpong.

Odeneho Appiah, however, expressed worry about the negative public comments about her age and experience and said such unsavoury remarks would always discourage the youth to move forward to seek positions in public life.

Mr Appiah said it was important that the youth were encouraged at all levels to take active part in decision-making at all times to sustain the traditions of the party for generations.

He pledged his support for the candidate and said that was what she needed at the moment to enable her achieve her political goals and ambitions.
