Yefri citizens warned against attacks on teachers

Yefri (B/A), June 3, GNA – Okoforobour Osei Bonsu 11, Chief of Yefri in the Nkoranza District of Brong Ahafo, has warned his people against attacks on teachers.

He said he would not hesitate to cause the arrest of anyone who would attack a teacher over educational issues. Nana Osei Bonsu gave the warning when Mr Kwabena Agyemang Badu, District Director of Education, called on him at his palace over an issue between a teacher and a youth.

About a month ago, Isaac Bafoe, a former student of the local JSS went to the School staff common room with a cutlass and a club threatening to kill one of the teachers, Mr. Collins Kwarteng. The case was reported to the Police but Baffoe bolted and had since been at large.

Nana Osei Bonsu said he intervened in the matter to ensure peace and understanding among the people and the teachers.

He advised parents to discipline their children since any negative acts by a child “is a disgrace to the parents” and promised to pursue the matter to make sure that Bafoe was arrested and dealt with to serve as a deterrent to like-minded persons. Nana Osei Bonsu said a forum would be organised at Yefri for the Police to educate the people on human rights issues. 3 June 05
