The Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church, Mid-Ghana Union Conference, has officially cut sod for the construction of a 220-bed capacity Adventist Retreat Centre at Feyiase in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The colorful groundbreaking ceremony, held on a vast 79-acre parcel of land, brought together church leaders, traditional authorities, contractors, and community members to witness what was described as a historic project for both the church and the people of Feyiase.
Speaking at the event, Pastor (Dr.) Kwame Annor Boahen, President of the Mid-Ghana Union Conference, revealed that the project has been awarded to Asumadu Construction Works Limited. He explained that the facility, upon completion, would serve as a multipurpose centre for the church, hosting camp meetings, conferences, workshops, and training programs.
Dr. Boahen further disclosed that the project has been designed not only as a retreat centre but also as an extension campus of Valley View University, where a medical school will be established to enhance education and health training in the country.
“The first phase of the project, which is expected to be completed within 12 months, will deliver a 220-bed capacity hostel to begin operations,” Dr. Boahen said. He added that various church auxiliaries, associations, and stakeholders have already pledged their support towards the successful execution of the initiative.
On his part, Mr. Michael Oti Mensah, Engineer and CEO of Asumadu Construction Works Limited, assured the church of quality work and timely completion of the project. He appealed to residents of Feyiase to support the work by safeguarding construction materials and equipment at the site, emphasizing that theft and sabotage would only delay the progress of the centre.
“I urge all residents to put their hands on deck to ensure that this important project is completed within the scheduled period. This facility will serve the church and the community at large,” Mr. Oti Mensah stressed. He also expressed profound gratitude to the SDA Mid-Ghana Union Conference for the trust reposed in his company and pledged to deliver beyond expectation.
In a goodwill message, Nana Osei Tutu, Chief of Feyiase, described the day as a historic and joyous occasion for the people of Feyiase. He commended the SDA Church for choosing his community for such a monumental development and urged the contractor to prioritize employing the youth of Feyiase in the construction process.
“This project should not only transform the SDA Church but also bring opportunities to my people, especially the young men and women who are eager to work,” the chief stated.
The Adventist Retreat Centre project, when completed, is expected to boost spiritual development, education, and economic activities within the Bekwai Municipality and beyond.
