World Vision donates to NFED facilitators

The Ashanti Area Development Programme (ADP) of the World Vision Ghana (WVG) has presented bicycles, raincoats and Wellington boots worth 30 million cedis to 34 English literacy classes facilitators of the Non-Formal Education Division (NFED) in the Sekyere West and Ejura-Sekyedumase Districts.

The items were meant to enhance the work of the facilitators, initiated by the WVG in collaboration with the NFED in the two districts in 2002.

Presenting the items, Miss Gladys Zormelo, ADP Manager said the establishment of the 34 English literacy classes in 31 communities in the two districts was to empower the rural people with knowledge.

She said the ADP had supplied English readers, flipcharts, chalkboards and exercise books to 1,020 English literacy learners.

Miss Zormelo said the ADP was working in 108 communities on water and sanitation to benefit 208,676 people from the two districts.

She said the programme had provided 273 boreholes in the two districts. This has resulted in the eradication of guinea worm and other water borne disease as well as assisting 118 farmers to establish more than 100 hectares of cashew farms.

Miss Zormelo called on opinion leaders, elders and assembly members to ensure that the literacy classes ran smoothly in their communities.

Mr Thomas Edward Atakora, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere West, thanked World Vision for its assistance, and said the organisation had worked hard to improve the living conditions of the people in the district and appealed to it to continue its humanitarian assistance.
