Woman granted bail for selling unwholesome pig feet

Tema, March 23, GNA – A 50-year-old used clothes seller at Kpone was on Monday granted 150 million-cedi bail with two sureties by a Tema Circuit Court ‘A’ for allegedly selling pig feet, which had been declared unwholesome by the Port Health Unit.

Korkor Dagojo was in the process of treating the meat for sale in the market when she was arrested. She also tried to bribe the police detective who had gone to effect the arrest with 400,000 cedis. She pleaded not guilty to charges of selling unwholesome meat and corrupting a public officer and would re-appear before the court on March 29, this year.

According to the Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Mary Assunta, the accused on March 19, this year, hired the services of a cabbie, Joseph Denteh, to convey the rotten pig feet from the Kpone refuse dump to her house.

The Court heard that three days earlier, the Port Health Unit had destroyed a quantity of pig feet, which they dumped at the Kpone refuse dump.

Chief Inspector Assunya said after delivering the carcass, the cabbie reported the case to the police and Korkor was nabbed.

Police investigations later revealed that Korkor had already treated about half of a 40-footer container of the unwholesome meat that was buried at the Kpone site.

It was revealed that Korkor first washed the mud off the meat with water and sponge, cooked it, drained the water and then salted it before smoking it.
