Woman fined for stealing wax prints

Assin Fosu (C/R), May 30, GNA- The Assin-Fosu Magistrate’s Court, has imposed a fine of 800,000 cedis on Esther Korkor, a farmer, for stealing four pieces of wax prints worth 1.4 million cedis, belonging to a trader under false pretence.

Korkor, who pleaded guilty to stealing the cloths, would be gaoled for four months in default.

In addition, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr Joseph Blay ordered her to pay a restitution of 1.4 million cedis to Ms Grace Yawson, the complainant, or in default be jailed for another six months. Prosecuting, Detective Police Inspector Kwesi Wiredu, told the court that last November, Korkor who hails from Assin Akenkansu in the Assin-North District, approached Ms Yawson at Assin- Fosu and told her she needed some mourning cloths to buy because she had lost her mother. He said the accused collected the clothes and went into hiding, compelling the complainant to pay for the two full pieces she collected on her behalf.

Inspector Wiredu said Ms Yawson spotted Korkor at a lorry station at Fosu-Dompim on May 26 this year, and caused her arrest.
