Ghana took a giant step towards securing a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a commanding 5-0 victory over the Central African Republic (CAR) in their penultimate qualifier on Wednesday.
The Black Stars produced one of their most dominant performances of the campaign, with goals from Mohammed Salisu, Thomas Partey, Alexander Djiku, Jordan Ayew, and Kamaldeen Sulemana sealing the emphatic win in Meknès, Morocco.
Defender Mohammed Salisu opened the scoring in the 20th minute, heading home from a Mohammed Kudus corner to give Ghana the early advantage.
The lead was doubled seven minutes into the second half when Thomas Partey coolly slotted in after a clever pass from Jordan Ayew.
Ghana continued to pile on the pressure, and Alexander Djiku made it 3-0 in the 69th minute with a powerful header from another Jordan Ayew cross.
Ayew then turned scorer two minutes later, firing home to make it 4-0 before Kamaldeen Sulemana added a fifth to cap off a brilliant team display.
The result strengthens Ghana’s grip on top spot in Group I, moving them closer to a fifth World Cup appearance.
Ghana now need just a point in their final game against Comoros in Accra on Sunday to officially book their ticket to North America 2026.
