The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old woman, Augustina Adoma, for allegedly setting fire to the personal belongings of her ex-lover, Emmanuel Otabil, and stabbing him during a confrontation in Racecourse, Sowutuom, in Accra.
In a statement, the Police indicated that preliminary investigations revealed that Augustina, currently unemployed, visited the 30-year-old driver unannounced on the morning of Thursday, June 26, 2025.
After finding Emmanuel in the company of another woman, she allegedly poured a bucket of water on them and seized his Samsung mobile phone before leaving the premises.
Later that afternoon, around 4:00 pm, the suspect returned to Mr. Otabil’s kiosk in his absence, and using a duplicate key, she set fire to several of his belongings, including a mattress, carpet, blankets, and bedsheets.
Mr. Otabil confronted Ms. Adoma in the evening to demand the return of his phone and confront her about the arson attack. During the altercation, she allegedly picked up a knife belonging to a nearby orange seller and stabbed him in the left side of his chest.
Mr Otabil was initially rushed to Racecourse Hospital, then transferred to Lapaz Community Hospital, and subsequently moved to the University of Ghana Medical Centre, where he underwent emergency surgery. He is currently hospitalised and responding well to treatment.
Police investigations led to the recovery of the stolen phone, and the suspect was later arrested at the Tesano Police Station.
