Ghana international goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott has joined Slovak club FC Kosice on a contract running until the end of 2026.
The agreement includes an option for FC Kosice to extend his stay for a further year, taking the potential length of the deal through to 2027.
The 30-year-old had already spent two weeks training with the club before completing the move. He will compete with Matus Kira and Filip Kalanin for the starting goalkeeper’s position.
Wollacott’s arrival follows Kevin Dabrowski’s departure at the end of the summer transfer window. FC Kosice had been seeking greater experience in their goalkeeping department and identified the Ghanaian as a suitable addition.
The club’s sporting management were impressed by Wollacott’s experience, professionalism and willingness to work alongside the goalkeepers already at the club.
“We were looking for an experienced goalkeeper who would naturally fit into the environment and culture of our club,” FC Kosice sporting director Terry Westley said.
“Joe is a professional in every way and is ready to pass on his experience.”
Wollacott has spent most of his career in England, playing for Bristol City, Forest Green Rovers, Swindon Town, Charlton Athletic and Crawley Town.
He also played for Scottish club Hibernian during the 2023/24 campaign. His move to FC Kosice is the first time he has had the opportunity to play outside England.
Born in Bristol, Wollacott represents Ghana internationally and has won 12 caps for the Black Stars.
He said the chance to move abroad attracted him because it offered both a fresh challenge and the opportunity to experience football in a different environment.
“This project appealed to me. I saw that this is a significant club that is moving in the right direction,” Wollacott said.
“It is also a personal challenge for me to go abroad and try something new.”
The goalkeeper said he had settled in quickly and received a positive welcome from his new team-mates since arriving in Slovakia.
He will now compete for regular selection while attempting to establish himself in the FC Kosice squad. Wollacott said his immediate focus was to contribute to the club’s aims and challenge for playing time.
“I want to play, help the club get to where we want to get together, and I believe that we have a successful season ahead of us,” he said.
His signing gives FC Kosice an experienced option after Dabrowski’s departure, while Wollacott begins a new chapter in his club career.
He will continue to compete with Kira and Kalanin for the goalkeeper’s role as FC Kosice look to strengthen the position for the remainder of the season.
