WiLDAF trains facilitators to fight domestic violence

Women in Law and Development in Africa, Ghana, (WiLDAF) has organised a four-day training for 18 facilitators in the Eastern Region to educate them on how to be assertive, bold and confident to become good role models.

The programme also aimed at equipping the girls with youth friendly strategies to help them to fight for their rights and stand up domestic violence, especially rape and defilement.

Ms Abigail Edem Hunu, the Communications Officer of WiLDAF Ghana, addressing the programme, said such capacity training programmes were necessary to help make schools a safer place for vulnerable girls.

She noted that this would enable them to talk about issues affecting school children, especially girls, for the necessary preventive measures to be put in place.

Ms Hunu said the 18 facilitators were selected from six basic schools: St Barnabas Anglican JHS, Teshie LEKMA 10 and 12 Basic School, Wegbe Kpalime, Osu Presby School, Kyinasu D.A and Nkrai Ngresi Basic School.

She explained that the country stood to benefit from the enormous latent capabilities of the girl-child who as a prospective woman possessed all what it took to bring development if given the needed support.

Therefore, she said, it was important to make the critical investments in high quality education, skills, training, access to technology and other learning initiatives for these girls to enable them to become useful in future.

WiLDAF Ghana is a pan African non-governmental women’s rights organisation committed to the promotion and protection of the rights of women and children.
