The Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) has threatened a legal suit against the Public Utility Regulatory Commission(PURC) should the regulatory body fail to secure for Ghanaians improved utility service delivery, after the tariff increment.
“They have the mandate to increase tariffs, but they should also ensure they get us interrupted utility service” the Chief Executive Officer of the CPA, Kofi Kapito told Fiifi Banson on Kasapa 102.3 FM Monday.
He said essentially the PURC have to be bonded in court to guarantee quality of service delivery for Ghanaians as they (PURC) press for higher tariffs.
“We’ll hold the PURC responsible if the troubles Ghanaians are going through with worsening power situation remains unchanged”
The PURC has introduced new utilitie tariffs, commencing today.
The increment is coming amidst a protracted energy crisis popularly known as Dumsor, a social difficulty Ghanaians have endured for over three years, together with perennial water shortages in many communities of the country. In all, the tariff adjustment is within the range of about 200 per cent for ECG, VRA, GRIDCo and Ghana Water.
