We are innocent of student’s death – Kpando police

Police in the Kpando district in the Volta Region have disclosed to Citi News that they are innocent of allegations connecting them to the death of a student, Lawrence Adese.

According to the police, investigations are currently ongoing to establish the true cause of the death of the boy.

Lawrence Adese, a student of Havé Technical Institute in the Volta Region, is reported to have been beaten to death by personnel of the police service in the area.

The student is reported to have died in the early hours of Monday, March 18, 2013.

In an interview with citifmonline.com, Kpando District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Christopher Abaka, noted that students from Awudome Senior High School filed a report indicating that students of the Havé Technical Institute had seized their camera.

Officers at the station were thus deployed to the school where two persons were apprehended.

According to the Chief Superintendent, however, before his officers could move away with the suspects, they were attacked by several students who deflated their tyres and physically assaulted the officers.

Police reinforcement was thus radioed-in leading to the arrest of 20 students. Some students, according to him, sustained some injuries.

Chief Superintendent Christopher Abaka noted however that after some hours, it was noticed that Lawrence Adese’s condition was worsening and was thus rushed to the hospital.

He died before arrival.

Lawrence Adese’s body is currently deposited at the Kpando mortuary.
