WAEC enjoying too much monopoly – NAGRAT

General Secretary of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) Stanislove Labome says the monopoly being enjoyed by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has contributed to the consistent leakage of examination questions.

More than three papers have been leaked in the ongoing West African Senior High Certificate Examination raising concerns about the conduct of the examinations.

Authorities at WAEC are tight-lipped over the latest examination leakages in the ongoing West African senior school certificate examination.

Some students in the Greater Accra and Eastern regions reportedly had access to the oral English, Integrated Science, Social Studies and Physics papers between 12 midnight and 4 am while others were circulating on social media on the day the papers were written.

It follows the recent announcement by WAEC that it was introducing a software to check cheating in exams this year.

It is unclear if the leaked papers will be cancelled as WAEC officials meet to take a final decision on the matter.

But speaking on Morning Starr Wednesday Mr. Labome said WAEC cannot be left out of the blame adding that there must be reforms in the operations of WAEC.

“NAGRAT will advocate that the monopoly being enjoyed by WAEC is what is making them go to sleep, allow other examining bodies come in and compete with WAEC, competition brings efficiency, the situation will improve if that happens,” Mr. Labome said.
