Voters’ registration centre re-located to a police station

Wassa-Akropong(WR), Aug. 11, GNA – Officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) at Wassa-Akropong last Saturday, relocated its registration centre to the police station after a confusion that nearly resulted in violence. An eyewitness account told Ghana News Agency that when Mr Samuel Yensu, a Cameraman of the EC went to give a lost identity card to its owner at the EC’s office. The source said a large crowd that thought the two people were up to some mischief rushed on them to demand explanation from Mr Yensu for leaving the centre and forced him to take their photographs in the office. Mr George Kwaw, Amanfi East District Electoral Officer said sensing danger he hurriedly called a meeting of the Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) at the constituency to cool tempers. He said the centre was therefore, re-located to ensure smooth registration exercise. Mr Kwaw called for cooperation from the political parties to ensure a smooth and peaceful registration exercise.
