Voltic (Gh) Ltd., in partnership with World Vision Ghana, has inaugurated two bore-holes at a cost of US$27,000 for the Akara CHPS Compound and Woriyanga Health Centre in the Garu Tempane district of the Upper East Region.
The project, initiated under World Vision’s ‘WASH for Improved Socio-economic Empowerment (WISE)’ programme, is to address water safety and access challenges in the district by providing the two health facilities with mechanically-drilled boreholes as well as build capacities for ownership and sustainability and improvement in water and sanitation issues.
The two health centres receive all referral cases from the Community-based and Health Planning Services (CHPS) compounds and clinics in the district, but do not have access to safe water.
It is against this backdrop that the two entities contributed toward construction of the boreholes as well as implementation of both sanitation and hygiene interventions to ensure the various sectors of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) are holistically implemented in the identified areas.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Corporate Affairs Manager of Voltic (Gh) Ltd. Cyrus deGraft-Johnson noted that providing the water facilities to the two health facilities will reduce the disease burden, especially those of public health concern.
He indicated that the availability of safe water at the health facilities will ensure that visitors and patients practice good personal hygiene, particularly hand-washing at critical times; adding that it will also enable the health facilities to cleanse equipment thoroughly so as to prevent any possible outbreak of an epidemic.

In his remarks, the National Director of WVG, Mr. Hubert Charles, said World Vision is committed to partnering with corporate institutions and other development partners in increasing access to safe water and improved sanitation for children and their families in Ghana’s deprived communities.
Voltic has been partnering with World Vision Ghana for the past 4 years in the area of basic education. Thousands children have benefitted from this partnership which involves the distribution of lap-desks to children in Ghana’s very deprived communities.
