Vile anti-Akufo-Addo propaganda won’t fly – Group

A group says “vile propaganda” against Ghana’s former Attorney General will not kill his presidential ambition.

Alert Ghana, in a statement signed by Fadi Samih Daboussi, said those scheming against the two-time flagbearer of the country’s main opposition party are twisting facts and resorting to falsehood to achieve a self-serving aim.

The group’s response follows social media messages claiming Akufo-Addo – who wants to have a third try at the presidency in the West African country’s next general elections – had to temporarily suspend his campaign for the flagbearer slot due to ill health.

“We are dismayed at the vile and vexatious propaganda that is nothing to go by and must be treated with the contempt that it deserves,” Alert Ghana said in a statement, Sunday August 3.

Akufo-Addo on Friday said he was suspending his campaign so he could personally monitor the Electoral Commission’s 10-day limited voter registration exercise, which starts today, Monday August 4, 2014.

He also encouraged party supporters to be vigilant in monitoring and participating in the exercise, thus his temporary suspension of the campaign to allow fresh voters to register.

“What informed Nana’s decision to suspend his campaign, temporarily, was the massive turnout of NPP supporters and executives wherever he went. That has sent shivers down the spines of haters and other money hungry miscreants who would seize the least opportunity that would inure to the benefit of their self-serving bigoted souls. The registration exercise that will be conducted soon by the EC, coincides with Nana’s tour of the very sensitive NPP support base – Brong Ahafo, Ashanti and Eastern Regions – and considering the boisterous waves of teeming supporters, the campaign was put on hold, shortly,” Alert Ghana explained.
