V/R Labour Council retains Chairman

Ho, Jun 26, (Dzokoto) GNA-Mr Erasmus Ametepe Abbah, a Technician with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in Ho, was last Wednesday elected for the fifth time running as Chairman of the Volta Region Council of Labour. The 85 delegates from all the 13 District Councils of Labour which met at Ho also elected Mr S.K Amankwah as his Vice.

Mrs Vivian Abla Adobor-Tefe, a Marketing Officer of the Ghana Post was also re-elected as Chairperson of the Regional Women’s Committee and a representative of women on the Executive Board of the TUC. Her vice is Ms Veronica Tagbovi, of the National Youth Council while Ms Valentine Bonto was elected Secretary.

Mr Abbah told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that he would work to strengthen the bonds of the unions with workers. He said this would make many more workers identify with the aspirations of their unions and willingly participate and contribute to deliberations.

The two-day delegates conference which discussed proposed amendments to the TUC constitution ahead of the Quadrennial Congress of the TUC in August, this year, was addressed by Mr Kwasi Adu-Amankwa, TUC Secretary-General. Among other issues discussed were the draft policy documents of congress, pensions, health insurance and the challenges of the new labour law.
