Use Power Of Emancipation To Improve Conditions – Women Told

Ekwamase (Central Region), 23 Oct.,

The chairperson of Ekwamase branch of the 31st December women’s movement, Mrs. Mercy Ewuah Afful, has called on Ghanaian women to utilise the power derived from their emancipation to improve their standard of living. Mrs. Afful said women cannot boast of emancipation when they continue to live in poverty, disease and squalor. She was addressing members of the movement at Ekwamase after a visit to some communities to interact with members. Places she visited included Dwenwoho, Kososan, Ebenezer and Ogoekrom, all in Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam district. Mrs. Afful urged the women to organise regular clean-up exercises to get rid of the filth which is the major cause of diseases like malaria. The illiterates among them should take advantage of the functional literacy classes to learn how to read and write. She appealed to Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam district assembly to assist the movement to set up income generating ventures to raise the standard of living of women there.
